{Sweet Treats} Shake Shack Vanilla Custard with Chocolate Cookie Dough and Raspberries

While Jeff's cooking my birthday dinner tonight (!), I thought this would be a good time to share a quick sweet treat from my favorite burger spot, Shake Shack. Doesn't that look good? It's sitting in our freezer right now, waiting for dessert time. But I couldn't resist and I've already sneaked a few bites. It's sweet from the thick vanilla custard, balanced with the tartness from fresh raspberries. The chocolate cookie dough puts it over the top (in a good way!) for me.

Coincidentally, my first blog post for work was posted today too. So if you're looking for some easy and healthy road trip snack tips for the family (i.e. the complete opposite of the photo I posted above!), head on over here to check it out!

{Dining Out} Salt & Fat in Queens

Could there be a restaurant more appropriately named to entice food bloggers than Salt & Fat?  Last Friday, I met up with Jackie (Diva That Ate NY), Ken (Hungry Rabbit), Siobhan (Blondie & Brownie), and Yvo (Feisty Foodie) in Sunnyside, Queens for a much anticipated dinner.

{Food Events} CityMeals-on-Wheels A Taste of Home 2011

Dining under the stars at the CityMeals-on-Wheels event at Rockefeller Center with desserts by Daniel Boulud, crawfish by NOLA's Commander's Palace, and reserve cognac by Pierre Ferrand.
If you like photos of food, then this post is for you! After winning two tickets to the Citymeals-on-Wheels fundraising event at Rockefeller Center, I knew we would be treated to a feast for the senses.  This event was a chef's tribute for a great cause. Most chefs had a NY restaurant, but plenty of others came in from around the U.S.  The chefs were sharing family recipes - though plenty seemed a lot more fancy than my family ever made at home!  Armed with my camera and an empty stomach, I met up with Jeff (and soon Yvo of Feisty Foodie who also got tickets) to enjoy a night out in NYC.

{Sweet Treats} Ralph's Famous Italian Ices now in Manhattan!

mmm...Ralph's Creme Ices
Forget being a kid in a candy store. For me, with the weather here in NYC being so hot, I'd rather be a girl in an ice cream store.  Thanks to Ralph's Famous Italian Ices, I got to live out that dream and tried a myriad of different Italian ices.

{Food Events} David Burke Kitchen tasting and Vlasic Farmer's Garden launch

I almost didn't make it. I knew I would be late to the David Burke Kitchen tasting event that marked the launch of Vlasic's new Farmer's Garden pickle launch. After all, I was heading to SoHo after work and my new job is based in Long Island City, Queens (dangerously close to M. Wells).  By the time I arrived, everyone was finishing up their meal.  Happily, the PR ladies were able to get a few extra plates for me to try. I had the added bonus of dining one-on-one with Chef Mark Susz.

{Sweet Treats} Prairie Girl Bakery Cupcakes and an Announcement

It was a Sunday, just 30 minutes after it had opened, when we reached , Toronto's new cupcake shop.  We saw a crowd and my New Yorker husband immediately remarked, "That better not be the line to get in (like outside Magnolia Bakery in NYC)."  Luckily there was no line up (the small mob was trying to catch a glimpse of Twilight's Robert Pattinson who was filming his movie just outside the cupcake shop).  And there were lots of cupcakes that tasted so good that I came back the next day.  These are my favorite cupcakes in Toronto.

{Fun Foods Find} Summertime Fun Foods Found in Toronto

Happy Saturday! To celebrate the weekend, I wanted to share a few fun food finds we found while in Toronto.  It always makes me smile when we find something new to us - like the blueberry, kiwi, and rib-eye steak Lays potato chips from China and the cute little kiwi berries from New Zealand.  This time while visiting my family, my brother brought over these uniquely-flavored ice pops.

{Travel} His vs Her Lunch in Toronto

Happy June! We're back from a last-minute trip to Toronto. I have an exciting new opportunity coming up (more details to come!) so we took advantage of my free time and snagged a flight deal to visit with my friends and family this past long weekend.  Along with wonderful home-cooked meals, we enjoyed going out with friends to a couple new eateries in Toronto. Like our previous trips to Chicago and Toronto, we each "chose our own adventure". My husband opted for Sunday brunch at Parts and Labour (recommended to us by local food blogger Suresh Doss of Spotlight Toronto) while I selected Monday's"workday" lunch at Camros Organic Eatery.
